Can your car make you sick?

This is a great article. Part of it is recreated below. Read more to learn what to do and what it can cause.

Sources of EMF Radiation In Cars

  1. The Battery – Most car batteries are a form of DC power, and do not typically emit EMF Radiation consistent with AC power. However, they often will emit a powerful temporary field of DC voltage when changing currents, such as when the vehicle first starts. People that are especially EMF sensitive (suffer from EHS) are likely to respond to this.
  2. Vehicle Relay Switches – Many operations in the vehicle will cause these relay switches to fire, such as pressing the break, turning on the hazard lights, flipping a turn signal, etc. These relay switches create magnetic field radiation.
  3. Vehicle Computer Systems – These should be self explanatory. Any type of computer system will emit a large amount of EMF radiation. Both the on board computer that controls the media system, as well as engine compartment computers will emit radiation.
  4. Electric Engines – Most vehicles have small electric engines that control things like windows and wiper blades that will emit a small amount of radiation.
  5. Alternator – The vehicle alternator is one of the largest sources of EMF radiation. Most commonly found in the far side of the engine compartment, the alternator creates dirty electricity and EMF radiation as it alters the electrical waves to fit the needs of the vehicle.
  6. Key-less Entry Systems and Start Systems – Many new vehicles now no longer require a key, but instead rely on radio waves from the remote control key, and a push button to start the vehicle. These more advanced systems utilize both radio waves, and Bluetooth radiation  to control these systems, both of which emit EMF radiation.
  7. On Board Wifi – Wifi creates an enormous amount of radiation (read more about that here). Many vehicles are now coming equipped with Wifi routers built in so that families can be connected without having to rely on cell towers. This is EXTREMELY harmful as it produces an enormous amount of harmful radiation in very close proximity.
  8. Alarm Systems – Also utilizing radio waves, these alarm systems produce EMF radiation.

France banning mobile phones from schools

On Sunday, France’s education minister announced that mobile phones will be banned from primary, junior, and middle schools, calling it a matter of “public health.” While phones are already prohibited in classrooms in France, starting in September 2018 students won’t be allowed to use them on breaks, at lunch, or between lessons either.
“These days, the children don’t play at break time anymore,” Jean-Michel Blanquer said, according to the Local, an English-language publication. “They are just all in front of their smartphones and from an educational point of view, that’s a problem.”

Emmanuel Macron, France’s young new president, proposed a similar ban in his campaign earlier this year. Former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg also attempted a cellphone ban in 2006, but parents complained of inconsistent enforcement, and that they couldn’t contact their kids. Bill de Blasio, Bloomberg’s successor, lifted that ban in 2015, citing inequity (the policy was more heavily used in schools with metal detectors, which tend to be poorer). Now New York City principals devise their own mobile phone policies, or default to the standard: Students can bring their phones to school but have to keep them out of sight.

Research is on Bloomberg—and the French government’s—side. According to a 2015 working paper published by the London School of Economics, schools that banned mobile phones saw test scores for their 16-year-olds improve by 6.4%, or the equivalent of adding five days to the school year. “We found that not only did student achievement improve, but also that low-achieving and low-income students gained the most,” economists Philippe Beland and Richard Murphy told the BBC.

Activists hearing about water fluoridation

Activists want ban on fluoride in drinking water

  • By Christian M. Wade Statehouse Reporter
BOSTON — Activists are pressuring the state to ban the practice of adding fluoride compounds to public drinking water, saying it amounts to mass-medicating without public consent.

A proposal that went before a legislative panel on Monday would outlaw the practice. Filed by Sen. Barbara L’Italien, D-Andover, on behalf of a constituent, it would end a decades-old public health campaign aimed at preventing tooth decay.

“Medical mandates like this are politics pretending to be science,” said Karen Spencer, a Gloucester activist who is involved with anti-fluoridation campaigns. “No government has the right to put something into our water supplies that harms people’s health. It’s immoral.”

Spencer, one of several people who supported the ban during the hearing on Monday, said studies are increasingly linking negative health impacts — such as gastrointestinal ailments, thyroid disorders, kidney diseases and even autism — to fluoride added to the water.

But Dr. John Fisher, a Salem dentist and a trustee of the Massachusetts Dental Society, said the health benefits are indisputable.

“Drinking fluoridated water keeps teeth strong and reduces cavities by about 25 percent in children and adults,” he told the Joint Committee on Public Health. “Community water fluoridation has not only proven to reduce dental decay but also lowered dental costs, leading to outcomes that have important impact on overall health.”

Fisher, chairman of the Better Oral Health for Massachusetts Coalition, said research has shown that fluoridated water protects teeth without posing health risks. The American Dental Association, American Medical Association and National Cancer Institute endorse the practice.

Fisher said the internet is awash with misinformation about water fluoridation.

“There’s a lot of distortions out there,” he said. “I think these are generally good people who believe what they say, but if they actually read the studies they might be more inclined to accept the evidence in support of community water fluoridation as safe, efficient and effective.”

Who has fluoride in water

At least 140 public water systems in the state — serving more than 4 million people — add fluoride compounds, according to the Department of Public Health. Most have done so since the 1950s.  The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority — which serves more than 2.5 million people across 61 communities including Marblehead, Peabody, Swampscott and Lynn — has fluoridated the water for more than 30 years.

Water in Essex has been fluoridated since 1970, Gloucester since 1981 and Manchester since 1983. Half the fluoride in Rockport’s water occurs naturally, according to the state Department of Health; the other half has been added since 1984.

Concerns about the health effects have kept several towns on the North Shore and Merrimack Valley — including Georgetown, Merrimac and Rowley — from doing so.

Other communities, such as Rockport and Gloucester, have voted to keep using it.

The practice dates to the 1940s, when scientists discovered that people whose water supplies had higher concentrations of the naturally occurring chemical experienced less tooth decay.

After World War II, health officials embarked on a public campaign to add fluoride to the public water supply, despite fierce resistance. At one point in the ’50s, some considered such programs part of a communist plot.

Many fluoride treatments these days come from industrial byproducts produced by aluminum companies, which sell fluoride compounds in liquid or powder form wholesale for about $1.10 per pound. It’s approved for human consumption by the Food and Drug Administration.

“This stuff isn’t being manufactured in a pharmaceutical lab and dispensed by a doctor,” said Chris Martel, an anti-fluoridation activist from Amesbury. “It’s an industrial byproduct scrubbed out of factory smokestacks in China and indiscriminately dumped into our water supplies.”

Amesbury stopped adding fluoride in 2009 due to concerns about its quality. Two years later, residents voted to end the practice entirely.

“If you want a fluoride treatment, get it from your dentist,” Martel said. “Introducing this into the municipal water supply makes no sense.”

Limits for fluoride have fallen

Concerns about the detrimental effects of over-fluoridation prompted the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2011 to lower the recommended level for fluoride in water supplies to 0.7 milligrams per liter.

It lowered the recommended level again four years later.

The changes were prompted, in part, by a federal study suggesting that too much fluoride was streaking children’s teeth and a recognition that many Americans get fluoride from sources other than drinking water.

The MWRA and other communities lowered their fluoride levels.

In 2006, the National Academy of Sciences recommended the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reduce its maximum fluoride level in drinking water to below 4 milligrams. It warned that a lifetime of drinking water with fluoride at that concentration could raise the risk of broken bones.

At present, 70 percent of Americans get water from systems that add fluoride, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The CDC has called the fluoridation of water supplies to reduce cavities “one of the leading public health achievements of the last century.” But 200 municipalities nationwide have stopped the practice in the past decade.

Most of the country’s major cities still use fluoride, but at least one, Portland, Oregon, voted in 2013 to discontinue its use.

Boston bill on removing fluoride hearing Dec. 11

We recently found out that there is a one line item on the agenda of the state Public Health Committee to ban fluoridation in Massachusetts. This is an orphan bill, no one is sponsoring it but some MA resident who no one knows and who has an unlisted number was able to evoke his citizen’s right to file it over a year ago. No one knew this was coming up. The Dept of Health will show up to defend the bill and the Public Health Committee probably expects to dismiss it out of hand – but, I’ve already contacted them with written testimony in support of the bill and got other written testimony submitted as well.

  • What is needed is MA resident testimony on Monday Dec. 11 at the Boston State House. The committee is meeting between 1-5 PM in Room A-2. I’m going with my prepared 3 minute speech. Can you come and speak in favor of S 1226, too, please?

Although it would be nice to convince them to evoke their police powers to ban fluoridation on the spot, a more realistic goal would be to just not have them dismiss the bill and keep it alive for further study and advancement to the full legislature. That could result in banning fluoridation in 2018. https://malegislature.gov/Bills/190/S1226

Cell phone radiation linked to headaches

A recently published Chinese study has now found strong evidence linking cell phone radiation to headaches in children and adults. This 2017 study, which carried out a systematic review of some 2699 previous studies going back to 1990, also found a dose-response relationship between the risk of having a headache and duration of cell calls and frequency.

A 2016 Korean study examined a number of variables, stress, sleep, cognitive function, and depression, but found that cell phone call duration to be the main determinant of the severity of headaches.

A major Danish study on some 52, 000 children enrolled pregnant women had similar findings. Then when their children reached the age of seven, the mothers completed a questionnaire regarding their child’s health. It was found that children with cell phone exposure had higher odds of headache-related symptoms than children with no exposure.

In 2003, TNO Physics and Electronics Laboratory published the results of a study commissioned by three Dutch ministries on cell towers. (4,5)  found that cell phone radiation can cause headaches and nausea. It also found a link with other symptoms such as dizziness fatigue, weakness, and muscle pain – despite a lower dose of radiation than that of cell phones being used in the study.

New film on wireless radiation

RT America released the film Wi-Fi Refugees today and it is being viewed by millions all over the world on their live stream. It is a 52-minute documentary on what wireless radiation is, what it does to our bodies and our planet, and what life is like for the increasing number of citizens becoming ill from it. Several Massachusetts residents are interviewed in the film:

  • The clown, Jonathan Mirin, and his wife, Godlieve Richard who portrays the physician in their play Innocenzo, are from Shelburne, MA.
  • Ida Paredo is from Hopkinton and she shares what happened to her health after seven “smart” meters were installed on her condo wall.
  • Patricia Burke is from Millis and we see her helping Pamela Steinberg from Worcester measure the EMFs in her home, and learn how Pam has to protect herself from wireless signals coming from outside her home.
  • Patricia also joins me at Ashland High School where we measure the radiation from wi-fi systems which students and staff are exposed to daily in schools throughout the Commonwealth. We also discuss how other countries protect their citizens but in America the FCC is pushing more wireless into our society with 5G, even though the current U.S. National Toxicology Program study shows it causes DNA damage, brain and heart tumors.

I have cc:d each of these courageous MA residents if you would like to reach out to them directly with questions or comments.

I hope you will watch Wi-Fi Refugees with your loved ones so we can all learn together and do what we can to implement technology best practices in our homes, our towns and our society at large.

Technology is here to stay, so the message is not “no technology” but rather “safe technology”. This can be achieved through hard-wired Ethernet/fiber optic connections, by keeping mobile devices primarily in airplane mode, moving wireless infrastructure away from homes/schools/medical facilities, and encouraging industry to bring biologically safe mobile technology to market before we install any new infrastructure.

Massachusetts is to be commended for leading the nation with seven bills to begin examining the health impact of wireless radiation. Hopefully we can be the catalyst to help our nation turn the tide on this invisible ubiquitous toxin. Please include this submission as testimony for:

  1. S.1268 Resolve creating a special commission to examine the health impacts of electromagnetic fields
  2. S.1864 An Act relative to utilities, smart meters, and ratepayers’ rights
  3. S.107 An Act relative to disclosure of radiofrequency notifications
  4. S.108 An Act relative to the safe use of handheld devices by children
  5. H.2030 An Act relative to best management practices for wireless in schools and public institutions of higher education
  6. S.2079 An Act reducing non-ionizing radiation exposure in schools
  7. S.2080 An Act increasing medical awareness and insurance coverage of non-ionizing radiation injury and reliance upon credible independent medical research

The best video on EMF and DNA damage

Great video on how EMFs especially from cell phones and Wifi disrupt DNA. It also describes the restrictions France has on Wifi in schools and talkes about the coming 5G in the USA where our gov’t has put a law in front of Congress to prohibit local governments from restricting this technology. Basically we are having it forced upon us without any recourse.

Maryland raising warning on school Wi-Fi

The Maryland Children’s Environmental Health and Protection Advisory Council (CEHPAC) issued an eleven-page report December 13, 2016 titled “Wifi Radiation in Schools in Maryland Final Report,” which every school district in the country, if not around the globe, needs to read and implement.

On page 5 of that report, we find “What exposures are linked to WiFi technology?” Here’s what’s said:

“WiFi radiation” (WiFi), also referred to as radiofrequency radiation (RFR), is non-ionizing radiation typically in the microwave frequencies of approximately 900 megahertz (million cycles/second, or MHz) to approximately 5 gigahertz (1,000 million cycles per second, or GHz).

WiFi is used primarily for cellular telephones, local area networks (LANs), and other communications technologies. The primary bands used for WiFi are generally 2.4 GHz and 5GHz. [CJF: Which is similar to an operating microwave oven’s range of 2.4 GHz or above!]

WiFi radiation exposures are regulated by several agencies. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issues radiation exposure guidelines as specific absorption rates (SARs) for fixed antennas, hand-held cellular telephones, and personal communications services (PCS) devices. 1 These guidelines were last issued by the FCC in 1996. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has established occupational exposure limits for microwave radiation. 2 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not have standards for cellular telephones, but can take regulatory action if these devices are shown to have adverse health impacts. 3

Microwave technology researchers Martha R Herbert, PhD, MD, Harvard Medical School and other affiliations; David O Carpenter, MD, Director, Institute for Health and the Environment, University of Albany; Karolinska Institute associate professor Department of Neuroscience Olle Johannson and other respected independent-of-microwave-technology-funding researchers’ work have been consolidated into a 97-page anthology of sorts regarding EMF and RFR and their physiological effects, which can be read here.

Maryland state, education and children’s welfare officials obviously have come to the conclusion that parents have the right to know if there is an environmental hazard in the classrooms their children occupy for up to six hours a day. Currently, 20 countries around the world have taken steps to protect children from EMF and RFR microwave radiation in the form of WiFi technology in classrooms.

The upshot of the above CEHPAC report, parental and community involvement is the Report’s recommending the Maryland Department of Education (DoE) recommend to local school districts to reduce classroom wireless radiation exposures by switching over to and providing WIRED Internet connections.

Sweden recognizes EHS

Dr Yael Stein, MD, Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Hebrew University – Hadassah Medical Center, Jerusalem, Israel, gave an 83 slide presentation titled “Environmental Refugees” wherein Dr Stein pointed out key factors that need to be addressed in the modern age of microwave technology that super saturates humans with EMFs and RFs from cell phones and towers, Wi-Fi, utility companies’ AMI smart meters, smart phones, routers, monitors, etc. and other electronics that can send and receive data, information, voice, photographs, etc.

Dr Stein’s comprehensive presentation was before the UNESCO 10th World Conference on Bioethics, Medical Ethics and Health Law held January 6 to 8, 2015 in Jerusalem, Israel. [1]

One very prominent classification regarding EHS, pointed out by Dr Stein, is that in Sweden, electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) officially is recognized as a functional impairment and not regarded as a disease! Furthermore, there’s a published peer-review paper, “Electrohypersensitivity: state-of-the-art of a functional impairment” [2] wherein Sweden’s position on EHS is discussed. The Abstract for that paper states:

EHS is characterized by a variety of non-specific symptoms that differ from individual to individual. The symptoms are certainly real and can vary widely in their severity. Whatever the cause, EHS can be a disabling problem for the affected individual.

Is your symptom related to EHS?

“But what does it feel like?” This is the most popular question I’ve been asked in the last three years. In a nutshell — it feels like unremitting, wired, electrified torture. It feels like I am fused with a force field, that I’m no longer human but part of a circuit. It feels like my body is pulsating to an artificial frequency. If I were to check off some boxes in a physician’s waiting room, my symptom list would include numbness, tingling, muscle twitching, vertigo, loss of balance, pressurized headaches, spinal pain, rashes, insomnia, memory lapses, cognitive dysfunction, altered heart rate, tinnitus, fatigue, gastrointestinal distress and urological spasms — just for starters.
My symptoms worsen to torment based on dose and duration of EMF intensity, and diminish only with distance from the offending source. Which means, if there’s something energetically hurting me, there’s no waiting it out, there’s no “maybe I’ll get used to it,” there’s no “Alison, can’t you just deal with it?” And if I can’t shut it down, there is only one thing to do:
Leave.”

Electrosensitivity recognized as a disability by the Access Board

The Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (Access Board) is the Federal agency devoted to the accessibility for people with disabilities.

As stated in the Background for its Final Rule Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities; Recreation Facilities that was published in September 2002: “The Board recognizes that multiple chemical sensitivities and electromagnetic sensitivities may be considered disabilities under the ADA if they so severely impair the neurological, respiratory or other functions of an individual that it substantially limits one or more of the individual’s major life activities. The Board plans to closely examine the needs of this population, and undertake activities that address accessibility issues for these individuals”.

Following its recognition of electro sensitivity and its declaration of commitment to attend to the needs of the electromagnetic sensitive, the Access Board contracted the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) to examine how to accommodate the needs of the electro sensitive in federally funded buildings.

For people who are electromagnetically sensitive, the presence of cell phones and towers, portable telephones, computers, fluorescent lighting, unshielded transformers and wiring, battery re-chargers, wireless devices, security and scanning equipment, microwave ovens, electric ranges and numerous other electrical appliances can make a building inaccessible.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) notes that scientific studies have raised questions about the possible health effects of EMF’s.

NIOSH recommends the following measures for those wanting to reduce EMF exposure – informing workers and employers about possible hazards of magnetic fields, increasing workers’ distance from EMF sources, using low-EMF designs wherever possible (e.g., for layout of office power supplies), and reducing EMF exposure times.

Screen time messing up our brains – biologically!

abnormal braincrop Red areas designate abnormal white matter in internet addicted teens. *

Screen time for humans has now been proven to affect the biology of the brain. Victoria Dunckley, MD explains this in her book Reset Your Child’s Brain. I have friends with unruly children that forget their homework, can’t sleep at night, daydream a lot, and worse yet for the parents, are defiant and belligerent. Studies have shown that video gaming and time staring at screens (including iPhones) are affecting us all – and not for the good. This is an excerpt from an article Dunckley had published in Psychology Today (link on our sidebar).

Multiple studies have shown atrophy (shrinkage or loss of tissue volume) in gray matter areas (where “processing” occurs) in internet/gaming addiction (Zhou 2011 (link is external), Yuan 2011 (link is external), Weng 2013 (link is external),and Weng 2012 (link is external)). Areas affected included the important frontal lobe, which governs executive functions, such as planning, planning, prioritizing, organizing, and impulse control (“getting stuff done”). Volume loss was also seen in the striatum, which is involved in reward pathways and the suppression of socially unacceptable impulses. A finding of particular concern was damage to an area known is the insula, which is involved in our capacity to develop empathy and compassion for others and our ability to integrate physical signals with emotion. Aside from the obvious link to violent behavior, these skills dictate the depth and quality of personal relationships.

Research has also demonstrated loss of integrity to the brain’s white matter (Lin 2012 (link is external), Yuan 2011 (link is external), Hong 2013 (link is external) and Weng 2013 (link is external)). “Spotty” white matter translates into loss of communication within the brain, including connections to and from various lobes of the same hemisphere, links between the right and left hemispheres, and paths between higher (cognitive) and lower (emotional and survival) brain centers. White matter also connects networks from the brain to the body and vice versa. Interrupted connections may slow down signals, “short-circuit” them, or cause them to be erratic (“misfire”).
